Privacy Policy – Time Tax
Last updated: January 2025
Time Tax is a Chrome extension that shows the opportunity cost of watching YouTube videos based on your hourly wage. This policy describes what data the extension uses and where it is stored.
Data stored on your device
The extension stores the following only in your browser’s local storage (Chrome’s storage.local). None of this is sent to our servers except as described under “Payment (Real Spend Limit)” below.
- Settings: Hourly wage, playback speed, daily spend limit amount, and toggles for daily limit, real spend limit, and Glizzify.
- Balances: Daily spent amount, real spend balance, real spent amount, last reset date, and last real deposit amount (used for the “deposit more” flow).
Data used only on YouTube
The extension runs only on youtube.com. It reads:
- Video duration and playback state (to compute cost in real time).
- Channel names (to show credit for specific channels when Glizzify is enabled).
This information is used only inside the extension to show cost/credit badges and update your balance. It is not sent to our servers or third parties.
Payment (Real Spend Limit)
If you use the optional “Real Deposit” feature:
- When you click to deposit, the extension sends to our server only: the payment amount (in dollars), a success URL, and a cancel URL (the YouTube page you were on). This is used solely to create a Stripe Checkout session and redirect you to Stripe.
- Payment details (e.g. card number) are entered on Stripe’s site and are not received or stored by us. Stripe’s privacy policy applies to that data.
- After payment, Stripe redirects you back to YouTube. The extension adds the paid amount to your local “real spend” balance and does not send that balance to our server.
What we do not do
- We do not collect your name, email, or other identifying information.
- We do not collect or store your browsing history.
- We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties for advertising or other unrelated purposes.
- We do not use your data for creditworthiness or lending.
Contact
If you have questions about this policy, you can open an issue or contact the developer via the extension’s listing or repository.
